ROCHESTER, MI- Rochester area high school students interested in expanding their leadership skills and first-hand knowledge of the greater Rochester community have an opportunity to meet with a wide variety of regional leaders this June. The Rochester Regional Chamber announces the 3rd Rochester Youth Leadership Retreat which will take place Monday, June 23 and Tuesday, June 24, 2014.

Initially launched as a project from the Leadership Greater Rochester Class of 2010-11, the Rochester Youth Leadership Retreat strives to create an experience for youth that fosters leadership, community involvement and civic responsibility in the Greater Rochester Community.
After the Retreat, students will continue with their community service throughout the school year, using the skills they have learned in the program.   Two students will be selected out of this group to serve as the Junior Grand Marshals for the 63rd Rochester Hometown Christmas Parade scheduled for Sunday, December 7, 2014 sponsored by Genisys Credit Union. Each student will also be awarded a $1,000.00 scholarship.
“I couldn't be more appreciative for the experiences I had while participating in the Rochester Youth Leadership Retreat. I never expected to win the award, but as it turns out I won a lot more than a scholarship,” said Michelle Lo Piccolo, a 2013 Retreat alumna and Junior Grand Marshal. “This Retreat gave me the opportunity and resources to use and expand my leadership abilities. As well as the chance to prove to our community what can be accomplished through teen leadership. We all have been blessed with different skills and talents and it was the Rochester Youth Leadership Retreat that helped me truly develop and improve mine."
The vision of the Rochester Youth Leadership Retreat is to be recognized as a premiere community-centered youth leadership program which focuses on:
·         Community awareness with a servant’s heart
·         Leadership for today and tomorrow
·         Proven measurable results

Applications are now available in the Rochester Regional Chamber of Commerce office located at 71 Walnut, Suite 110 Rochester, MI, 48307 — or on the website: www.rrc-mi.com
