(Genesee County), Mich. – Feb 2, 2018 –  Genisys Credit Union was excited to help “Change the Face of Hunger” by raising money for The Food Bank of Eastern Michigan. Genisys employees and members from Clio, Fenton, Grand Blanc, Marysville and Vassar branches raised $6,617.37. Genisys also utilized the Food Bank’s match program and raised another $7,892 for a total of $14,509.37.

“We are pleased to be able to partner with such a wonderful organization that helps those who have to make the decision between paying their bills and buying food,” says Genisys Credit Union President and CEO, Jackie Buchanan. Genisys is dedicated to Making a Difference in their communities. In 2017, they sponsored nearly 900 events with more than 4,000 community service hours.

The Food Bank of Eastern Michigan started in 1981 and served only Genesee County. Today the Food Bank distributes 28 million pounds of food each year throughout the 22 counties it serves and can provide 6 meals for every dollar raised. The Food Bank has many programs to help those who are food insecure. One such program is a mobile pantry program that allows agencies to distribute food to more areas and currently averages 10-12 deliveries per week with around 850 host locations. The mobile pantries are large trucks that deliver to a location, like the parking lot of a school, and make it easier for agencies to reach people outside of their physical location.
