Genisys Credit Union and the National Association of Letter Carriers “Stamp Out Hunger”

Published 5/8/2017

Volunteers sorting donated food at a previous Stamp Out Hunger food drive(Oakland County), Mich. – May 8, 2017 – Currently 1 in 6 Americans are unsure where their next meal is coming from. Thirteen million are children who feel hunger’s impact of their overall health and ability to perform in school. To help fight hunger, the national Stamp Out Hunger food drive occurs on the second Saturday of May.

Food banks and pantries often receive the majority of their donations during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday seasons. By springtime, many pantries are depleted, entering the summer low on supplies at a time when many school breakfast and lunch programs are not available to children in need.

Genisys Credit Union, Rite Aid, The Oakland County Sheriff Department, and the National Rural Letter Carrier’s Association have joined to support the National Association of Letter Carriers Branch 320 in collecting nonperishable food items for the “Stamp Out Hunger” campaign this Saturday, May 13.

Letter carriers of Branch 320 include the communities of Auburn Hills, Bloomfield Hills, Clarkston, Lake Orion, Oxford, Pontiac, Rochester, Waterford, White Lake, and West Bloomfield. They will place donation bags in residents’ mailboxes by May 11.

Participating in this year’s Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive is simple. Leave a non-perishable food donation in a bag by your mailbox on Saturday, May 13 and your letter carrier will do the rest. Postal carriers from branch 320 will distribute their collections to the following pantries: The Lighthouse of Oakland County, Rochester Community House, Oxford/Orion FISH, and Waterford VFW Post 1008.
