Genisys Sponsors Great Lakes State Fair

“Genisys felt it was important to support the return of one of Michigan’s traditions,” said Jackie Buchanan, CEO. “The Great Lakes State Fair is a time-honored celebration for the entire family to enjoy.”

The State Fair originally started in 1849 when the Michigan State Agricultural Society decided to host a separate fair from the one in New York. They began the agriculture fair in Detroit and then moved it around the Lower Peninsula to wherever rail lines and good roads were located so that all Michiganders could attend the celebration.

Now called the Great Lakes State Fair, the modern version of the event will celebrate the second largest industry in Michigan with traditional fair activities including farm animals, midway rides and games, food, community art displays, entertainment and the Shrine Circus – all from Michigan resources.

“The food and agriculture industry contributes $91.4 billion annually to Michigan’s economy and employs nearly 925,000 people,” said Jamie Clover Adams, Director of Michigan Department of Agriculture & Rural Development. “We produce over 200 commodities on a commercial basis and export $1.75 billion of agricultural products each year. Our 10 million acres of farmland make Michigan a great home to nearly 56,000 farm families.”

“The Great Lakes State Fair is a great value for people of all ages and provides a fun way for people to learn about our Michigan heritage,” said Buchanan.
